When we go shopping for office essentials, Google listings can tell us immediately the opening hours of the shop we want to visit or the service we need to use as well as our booking options.

If your business has re-opened or if you are working remotely, it is important to let customers know how to contact you.

Keep your hours up to date

With Google My Business, it is important to make sure your hours of operation are up to date – are you open late, closing early or open my appointment only? Do you offer delivery/shipping or contactless payments on-premises and do these affect your hours? If your business is temporarily closed, it is also important to have this listed and shown on your Google Search and Google Maps listings to avoid customers visiting a closed business and not returning when it has reopened. Marking your business ‘Temporarily closed’ won’t affect local search ranking and it will be treated similar to open businesses.

Your opening hours will show exactly when a customer can visit or call – with Google you can also add special hours which are temporary depending on your current situation.

Offer phone appointments and messaging

Offer telephone appointments using Google My Business to allow customers to connect with you straight away (working from home without a business landline, check out these communication tools).

If you offer timeslots, you should set the service attribute and add a link to the page on your website where visitors can schedule online classes, appointments or estimates. We can take care of that for you!

Using the Google My Business app for your business, you can also enable messaging as a way to help your customers reach you. If they can’t get you by phone or it’s outside your business hours, messaging can help customers get the support needed.

Set out your offers

Your offerings and services should be listed on Google so that customers are clear that they are interacting with the service provider they need. Some items to include are:

  • List of services provided
  • Safety and hygiene practices
  • Availability of gift cards to support your business
  • Online classes and visits
  • COVID-19 update posts
